It looks so sweet!

I'm addicted to buying art...

So I spent most of my day at home today surfing the net which may not have been a good idea because I couldn't help but look up my favorite artists and made some purchases.

So here's what I bought today! I pre-ordered these items

And I bought these posters!

Its awsome because these posters are limited editions and signed by James Jean. I guess it's the closest to being able to buy his actual art since I will never be able to afford an original. James Jean is such a badass!

I also got the Juxtapoz Illustration book! I trust it will be good.

Went to July Dr. Sketchy and had a good time. I tried drawing with ball-point pen this time, forcing myself to make good decisions and not erase. You can check out the rest of the drawings at my flickr account in the top right hand corner of this blog.

Working on a poster design...

So I've been wanting to do a big screen print. I've done a small one but I want one that big! Like 18x24 or bigger. So I tried turning something from my sketchbook into something ready to print in photoshop today. Hope I will have time to do it and it all works out.

Here's the sketch from my sketchbook and the design for printing!

Summertime

Summer is here and I've been having a pretty good time. I've been going to the gym, drawing, painting, playing Rock Band (more than I should) and basically doing whatever I feel like!

Recently I finished this painting which I submitted to the Lawndale's Big Show though I'm not sure if it will get in.

Oh well I enjoyed painting it. I need to get to work making more paintings also and I would like to have a show this summer too!

May is almost here.

And I'm glad. I still make it to every Dr. Sketchy event but haven't been able to go to every Art League drawing session during the weekend. I'm really am stressed with work, side jobs and finding time to rest and do my own things. But one thing I did do was get a new computer. I got a new Mac. Just what I've always wanted. But now I need photoshop. Still It's pretty nice. I've also been spending on frames that had been on sale at Hobby Lobby for 50% off so I can frame by figure drawings. The goal is to have 20 of them framed before having a show and trying to sell them. I think right now I'm at about 11 or 12. But here are a few pics from April's Sketchy Session.

Spring Break 2008

Well so far my Spring Break has consisted of hanging out getting some drawing done and spending more money than I should. Good news is I got my taxes done and I'm getting a pretty big refund! Hopefully it will offset all the money I spent. Most of it has been on food and mostly drink (drinking has become very expensive.) And the rest on art. I have moments where I can't help myself and start spending money on artists I admire. I justify this by telling myself that the prints I buy will be worth more over time and they might be assuming I will let them go. I have books and prints that have sold for more than I bought them but here are my latest purchases...

It's a Shepard Fairey print I bought from Metropark, a store in the mall. It cost a bit but I justified it to myself with the idea that it would sell for more. According to http://www.thegiant.org/wiki/index.php/Peace_Goddess_Burgundy
"This print was supposed to be Peace Goddess Red but an error led to the wrong ink being used. The print was then made available only for sale through Metropark."

I'm thinking this is good news! Mistakes usually are worth more, and they only ran 150 instead of 200, like they did the other colors.

I felt bad about spending so much money and said I would sell it right away but now I'm thinking what's the hurry, I'll hold onto it for a while.

The other purchase I made was for an Ashley Wood poster. I don't know if it will be become worth more in the future but I just like his work and he signs everything he sells off his site. Its also hard to catch when he is selling something off his site because it seldom happens, so who knows maybe it will be worth something. I just thought it was a cool image.

The thing I currently have my eye out for is a 18 x 24 in. print to take up an empty spot on my wall. I'm thinking another Tara Mc Pherson poster if I can catch a deal. I've also been considering this print. But it would be much of an investment and I kinda want something with more color but we'll see...

Art League March 8th

Monday, March 10, 2008

So me and my friend Juan Vera have been trying to do more figure drawing. Started as a new year's resolution and we have been pretty good about it till recently. I think I missed 2 weeks cause of family things and work but I was able to go this last weekend. It turned out to be a long pose, which I haven't done in a very long time. I finished about 30 mins early and had plenty of time to just knit-pick at it. I'm pretty happy with it.

I will be keeping my favorite drawings posted at my flickr every week http://www.flickr.com/photos/whitejackrabbit of course you have to add me as a friend to get access to drawings containing nudity.

First and foremost I would like to promote and encourage anyone with an artistic gene in their body to come, attend, support.... this event! I think it's badass and personally would go every week if they held it that often but right now its just once a month. So... next session is this coming Sunday!! March 16th!! 2-6pm.

I will try and post some of the favorite drawings I have done at this event as well as drawings I have done at the figure drawing sessions that are at the Art League every Saturday from 1-4pm.

Also I had a small mention in the paper about this event!!! http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/life/main/5599441.html

So I finally have a blog....
